Sactown = SportsTown
In the last year, Sacramento’s PR machine has been busy! The Kings, The River Cats, and The Sac Republic are humming along. But in the last year, The A’s are readying the Sutter Park Field for MLB, The X Games are coming to Sac August 22-24th, and we just got word that Major League Volleyball (MLV) is coming to town in 2026.
But do you know who the real athletes are? Who is sport’s true sixth “Man?” You and I. We swim, golf, run marathons, cycle, hoop, play baseball, bocce, swim open water, run ultramarathons, CrossFit, ski, pickleball, and play tennis. I think you get the idea.
Well, our prayers have been answered—Dick’s Sporting Goods is bringing something next-level to Arden Fair Mall. But this isn’t just a place to grab a new pair of running shoes and pretend you’ll use them. House of Sport is an interactive, immersive sports experience that’s about to shake up how we shop, train, and play.
What’s the Big Deal?
Think of House of Sport as a mash-up of a high-end sporting goods store, an indoor training facility, and an amusement park for athletes. This place is stacked with:
🏔 A rock climbing wall (time to test your grip strength—good luck)
🏌️♂️ A golf pro shop (finally, a place to blame your slice on something other than “bad clubs”)
⚾ Batting cages with HitTrax tech (perfect for reliving that one home run from high school)
⛸ An ice rink (because falling on ice is way more fun when people are watching)
🏆 A multi-sport playing field (where pick-up games will 100% get more competitive than they should)
At 156,000 square feet, this will be the first House of Sport in California. It will take over the old Sears space and give Arden Fair the energy it desperately needs.
Why This is Huge for Sacramento
-
Arden Fair Levels Up
Malls aren’t dead, but let’s be honest—they need a grow-up. Arden Fair is betting on experience-based retail, and House of Sport is the type of draw that could revitalize the entire Mall. Foot traffic (with the right demographics) will skyrocket, which means more customers for nearby stores and restaurants.
-
More Jobs, More Cash Flow
This isn’t just a win for shoppers—it’s a massive economic boost.
- Expect hundreds of new jobs, from retail staff to trainers running in-store sports clinics.
- More foot traffic = more local spending at restaurants, coffee shops, and businesses nearby.
- Other big-name brands may start looking at Sacramento for similar concepts if this location succeeds.
-
Sacramento Gets on the Retail Evolution Map
Brick-and-mortar stores that double as experience hubs are the future. Sacramento isn’t just keeping up—it’s ahead of the trend, and If House of Sport kills it, we could see more next-gen retail concepts popping up across the city.

The House of Sport will positively impact the Point West Office Market.
The Point West Office Submarket has languished, with about 650,000 SF of space available (22.6% Vacancy.) House of Sport is an amenity that will add to Point West’s value proposition. Coincidentally, A fantastic space across from the House of Sport offers Building signage and free covered and secure parking. The Building is home to The Vitamin Shop and Verizon. The address is 1740 Arden Way. Check out this video to learn more! 1740 Arden Way
So, When Can You Check Out the House of Sport?
Construction kicks off in 2025, with an expected opening in 2026. That means you’ve got about a year and a half to:
✅ Start training for your first rock wall climb
✅ Perfect your golf swing so you don’t embarrass yourself at the pro shop
✅ Prepare to drop way too much money on sports gear you “totally need”
Bottom Line: This is a Win for Sacramento
House of Sport isn’t just another store—it’s a destination. It’s good for business, the local economy, and anyone who loves sports (or wants an excuse to get out of the house).
What do you think? Will House of Sport be the ultimate sports hub for Sacramento, or are you just here for the Cinnabon?
